Andrew Gibson

Andrew-GibsonAndrew called to the Scottish bar in July 2009 having completed the Masters in Medical Law (MML) at the University of Glasgow in December 2008.  He studied for this degree on a part-time basis whilst working as a Solicitor in Local Authority.  A significant part of work concerned Mental Health Tribunals.  He has a particular interest in issues surrounding patient confidentiality and consent to treatment.

In September 2009 Andrew commenced a PhD at the University of Glasgow.  The working title of his thesis is “The interaction between a right to reproduce as developed by the European Convention of Human Rights and Child Welfare”.

Andrew has a keen interest in all aspects of Medical Law and hopes to bring a worthy contribution as a joint contributing editor to the work of the Scottish Human Rights Law Group.

Formed in May 2009, the Scottish Human Rights Law Group is a non-affiliated, independent, professional network for those engaged in legal practice and study, in academia and politics, in campaigning and in the provision of advice. It exists to raise awareness and knowledge of human rights law in Scotland, and to provide a forum for discussion of matters of interest across the field. The group organises seminars and roundtable discussions on human rights and is accredited for the purposes of CPD.
