About

The Scottish Human Rights Law Group is a network for those with an interest in human rights law in Scotland.

Our aims are:

  • To share information on Scottish human rights law with both legal practitioners and the public;
  • To organise CPD-accredited events;
  • To provide a forum for discussion and debate;
  • To add to the voices in Scottish civil society and ensure that a properly informed human rights perspective is added to public debates and law-making processes; and
  • To engage with the protection and promotion of human rights worldwide.

We welcome all practising lawyers, in-house lawyers, legal academics, law students and informal legal advisers.  Please register your interest by subscribing to our mailing list or contacting one of our editors.

The Group formed in May 2009 after Aidan O’Neill QC taught a human rights course on the University of Edinburgh Diploma in Legal Practice.

Formed in May 2009, the Scottish Human Rights Law Group is a non-affiliated, independent, professional network for those engaged in legal practice and study, in academia and politics, in campaigning and in the provision of advice. It exists to raise awareness and knowledge of human rights law in Scotland, and to provide a forum for discussion of matters of interest across the field. The group organises seminars and roundtable discussions on human rights and is accredited for the purposes of CPD.
